I was struck by how much of this is relevant today. It was pretty impressive to read the stories of the spread of co-ops in so many villages. Too bad more people did not listen. Young people should read this book.

Dear Friends,I believe that Moses Coady's principles are still very alive, very significant in our daily lives and still very relevant in our world today. For instance,"Education must begin with the economy". This principle fouses on the immediate needs of people as a way to empower them.As a Development worker from Africa, this idea is still valid in my context.
Thank you.

"They will harbor the harboless, visit the sick, bury the dead and ransom the captives by the establishment of those free, democratic, just and charitable cooperative organizations." These words were backed by actions. The co-ops that exist today are a living testimonies. lets keep them alive! And lets continue to tell the stories to our children globally.
Thank you.

Coady
Due to the effects of the Industrial Revolution, the visionaries in this book had their own revolution; traditional ways of working alone were replaced with Group Action. Coady’s passion for education ignited the workers to realize their rights. As profits grew, they saw the link to attitude and learning, and that most evils can be linked to ignorance and poverty. Having mastered their goals, they were free to pursue cultural activities from which sprung truth, beauty and pride. Although many still suffer from poverty but Coady will continue to be a beacon of hope for the world.
A few weeks ago I went looking for my copy of Masters of Their Own Destiny only to remember that one of my B.Ed students had borrowed it last year and never returned to me.
I wanted to check out some names of locations and dates before addressing some folks attending a little presentation for the People's School. Then I thought of this great site and I was quickly able to locate the info I needed.
The other day I was talking to a doctor up at St Martha's and he was asking about finding a copy of the book and of course I told him about this site.
